NBP president Ali Raza gets extension

















KARACHI: The government on Saturday granted one-year extension to Ali Raza, President, National Bank of Pakistan, commencing from July 1 this year.

Ali Razaís dynamic leadership guided the bank to a record high profitability for a decade with the assets reaching Rs1 trillion mark, said a NBP statement.

“During his tenure, the bank expanded internationally to the Central Asian Republics, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and is looking forward to commence operations in Saudi Arabia and Russia,” it said.

More recently, the bank has played a vital role in stabilising the countryís economy by supporting public sector organisations and the stock exchanges, the statement said. Ali Raza assumed his office in 2000 for two years, but got extensions since then to continue as NBP’s president. In recognition of his achievements, a number of international and national awards have been conferred both to the bank and to him in his personal capacity, the statement said.

Various quarters, including the union, representatives of the Officers Association, as well as, field officers of the bank have welcomed the decision of the federal government and said that this step will further strengthen the role of the bank in developing the national economy.

Meanwhile, the combined profitability of the National Bank for 2009 jumped by 17 per cent to Rs62 billion.
