KARACHI: Federal Minister for Industries and Production Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani has vowed to turn Pakistan Steel Mills (PS) into a profit-making organisation by taking up its problems on priority.

He said this while speaking to officials of the steel mill during his visit on Friday. “Pakistan Steel is a prestigious organisation and pride of our nation which will be turned into a profit-making organisation,” he said.

He said the government has every intention and a strong will to resolve the problems of the PS with every possible effort.

The PS was playing a vital role in the construction and engineering sectors by producing quality products of international standards. “No doubt PS is going through difficult times,” he added.

Sales tax rationalisation on steel products and global market competition has affected the financial position, which will be overcome soon. “PS is now relying on local raw material and extracting iron ore from Saindak (Balochistan) for the last seven months,” the minister was informed by PS officials.
