Malaysian firm willing to invest $500m in Pakistan















ISLAMABAD: Renexus, a renowned Malaysian company, is willing to invest around US$500 million in Pakistan for building water treatment plants on Build, Own and Operate (BOO) basis.

This was stated by John Klerr, Executive Chairman of Renexus during his meeting with Acting High Commissioner for Pakistan in Malaysia, Dr Imtiaz Ahmad Kazi in Kuala Lumpur today.

Renexus deals in water treatment plants, construction infrastructure development, information and communication technology, says a press release received here today from Malaysia.

While giving details of the investment proposal, Klerr said Renexus was ready to build water treatment plants at various locations in Pakistan, specially in the province of Punjab aimed at providing potable water for public as well for industrial use.

According to the proposal, he said Renexus will arrange all the required funding to build, own and operate the water plants and sell the water in bulk to the government-related agencies, who in turn, would effect the distribution to the end-user and collect utility charges.

The Acting High Commissioner suggested Klerr to increase the scope of their investment to other areas in the country like the province of Balochistan, Sindh and NWFP and industrial city of Karachi which were also facing shortage of safe and clean water.

Klerr also said Renexus was interested to Build, Own and Transfer (BOT) mass housing schemes in identified areas of Pakistan provided that firm guarantees were given to them to ensure security of their investment.

The Executive Chairman said Renexus had the expertise and the capabilities to construct a model township with 20,000 units equipped with green technology and complete with modern amenities such as recreational facilities, shopping areas, sewerage and waste management, mosque playing ground, communication and transportation network.

He said once the first experiment is approved, Renexus can build 100,000 housing units in Pakistan within five years to help Pakistan to overcome the acute shortage of housing.

The Executive Chairman also informed that Renexus was in touch with the state government of Perak, Malaysia to construct a modern automated standard abattoir in Pakistan in order to provide bulk supply of Pakistani mutton and beef to Malaysia of which there was great demand in this region.

The Acting High Commissioner appreciated the initiatives and prospects envisioned by the Renexus as very useful and mutually beneficial. He assured

the Executive Chairman that the High Commission will communicate Renexus proposals to the concerned quarters in Pakistan.

The meeting was also attended by Commercial Counselor for Pakistani High Commission Wajiullah Kundi and Press Attache, Qamar Bashir.
