Sheikh gives six-point formula to mitigate energy crisis
ISLAMABAD: Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance, Dr Abdul Hafiz Sheikh here on Monday presented a six-point formula to mitigate the country's energy crisis on short-term basis while advising for adopting a comprehensive medium-term strategy to end power crisis.
Delivering a lecture after Inaugurating NUST Business School (NBS), at National University of Science and Technology, Dr. Hafiz Sheikh stressed the need for utilizing the existing energy capacity to generate more power saying that there was need to identify the capacity of generating energy through gas.

Red tape, terror hindering investments in energy sector: CEO Engro Energy
KARACHI: Pakistan offers attractive opportunities to foreign and local investors in its power generation sector, but the menace of red-tape and terrorism hampers new investments, a top official of a leading business group said on Wednesday.
“There is need to develop a sense of urgency regarding Pakistan’s energy crisis,” said Khalid Mansoor, chief executive officer of Engro Energy, which recently inaugurated its first 217-MW power plant in Qadirpur, Sindh.

ECC may approve security agreements for power projects

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet will approve standardised security agreements for hydropower projects under the policy for power generation projects 2002, says agenda of the meeting made available to The News on Saturday.
The meeting, which is scheduled to be held on January 5 under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, will take up an 11-point agenda, submitted by various economic ministries.

Move to make windmill turbines locally
ISLAMABAD: The ministry of industries has issued directives to the State Engineering Corporation to take initiative for local manufacturing of windmill turbines in view of the prevailing energy crisis in the country.
Federal Minister for Industries and Production Mian Manzur Watto asked the chairman of State Engineering to explore the possibility of manufacturing windmill turbines at the Pakistan Machine Tool Factory in Karachi for power generation through windmills.
